GEOTHEATER© ... What's in a name?
GEO ... Geography is the foundation for our Educational Learning Resources
THEATER ... The large scale map of the world that forms the stage on which
students perform the learning resources.
Learning Outcomes:
From this resource it is anticipated that students will:
- Learn location, shape and size of all continents, oceans and countries of the
world.
- Develop spatial comprehension.
- Learn to work as a team through cooperation.
- Learn to follow instructions and plans.
- Earn a 'feel good' sense of accomplishment and pride of ownership.
Grade Level 5 - 8 covering subjects:
- Geography
- Fine Arts
- Mathematics
- Teamwork
Equipment Needed:
Mediums: We anticipate that most GEOTHEATERS will be created on outdoor
hard surface areas. The basic procedures are the same for most environments.
The only limitation would be space.
Materials: To create your hard surface GEOTHEATER you will need:
- Compass
- A ball of strong string
- Yard/meter stick
- Tape measure
- 5 nails or tacks
- Chalk, washable felts and indelible markers
- Paint brushes - 1/2 inch & 3 inch widths
- Small and large rollers
- Paint: 6 colors for the continents plus white for Antarctica, blue for the
oceans (color suggestions are included in the resource) and black for the
country outlines & signatures.
Suggestions:
When choosing paint, consult with your local paint supplier as surfaces and
climates will vary. Quantities will also vary depending on your scale and your
paint's coverage. We DO NOT recommend permanently placing the names of
the continents, countries or oceans on the GEOTHEATER, as this will reduce
the effectiveness of the Learning Resource Modules. You may, as lessons in
Geography & Art, customize your GEOTHEATER with dots or stars for areas of
importance in your country or make stencils for animals, fish, trees, mountains,
etc.
